2008 season To Consist Of One Less Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP Round Than In Years

Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc., jointly along with the Federation of International Motorcycling (FIM) and the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) are proud to announce the 2008 Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series schedule.

The 2008 season will consist of one less Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP round than in years’ past. The decision not to schedule a second Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP race in the upcoming season was made to allow an ample amount of planning time for all factory teams, support teams, and privateers to plan and budget for the 2008-2009 season in which there will once again be two international stops on the Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP schedule.

The Toronto round of the 2008 Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP season, which traditionally has taken place in December to open the season over the past few years, has been moved to March.

“We are very excited about the routing of the 2008 Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series schedule which capitalizes on the key markets in addition to returning to the great north and the Metrodome”, said Charlie Mancuso, President, Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc. “Building Amp’d Mobile Supercross into a strategic worldwide sports and entertainment brand focused on motorcycle racing at the core will continue to be the focus of the FIM, the AMA, and Live Nation next season and in seasons to come. After having just one international round in 2008, we will re-instate two international rounds in 2008-2009, leaving enough time for all the motorcycle industry to prepare for the international growth. ”

FIM President Vito Ippolito stated: “The Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP is an exciting and thrilling championship that continues to grow season after season and it has all the potential to be ‘big’ on the world sports scene. Next year, there may be one round only outside the U. S. but we are confident that the combined efforts of Live Nation, the AMA and the FIM will see the World Supercross Championship go ‘global’ in the years to come. This must be our goal. We owe it to the many supercross fans all over the world. “

AMA President/CEO Rob Dingman commented on the importance of AMA Championship Racing: “The Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series remains the premier supercross series in the world. The 2008 schedule gets us into the right markets for meeting our objectives for growth and we’re confident that our series will continue to expand in terms of fan interest and awareness. ”
