The winner of Saturday’s LG World Championships of Freestyle Motocross might be the last man standing. Literally.

Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg won last year’s title with a broken ankle. Nate Adams, who won the first four world championships before Stenberg’s victory, is not competing this year because of injuries.

Stenberg is the favorite to flip and twist his Yamaha motorcycle to another win this year, but he, too, has been battling back after tearing ligaments in his right thumb in August at the X Games. He had surgery, but wasn’t able to return to practice until last week.

Stenberg, who has broken both legs, says injuries are just part of the game.

“There’s not a lot of science to success,” says the 2006 X Games gold medal winner. “You just try to ride every single day that you can. Your career in this sport can be short, but if you’re dedicated, you can make a good living at it.”
