MX Sports Adds Women's Class to 2009 Motocross Schedule ashleyfiolek.com

MX Sports Pro Racing took the next step at bringing women’s motocross to the forefront of American motocross when it recently added the WMA as a third Women’s Class to the 2009 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship Series season schedule. The WMA’s first race is this Saturday, May 23, at the Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, Calif.

In January, MX Sports announced that it acquired the Women’s Motocross Association (WMA) National Championship. As a result, the Women’s Motocross Championship will be fully integrated into the AMA Pro Motocross Championship beginning with the 2009 season. Examiner.com

Ashley Fiolek, a deaf 18-year-old rider from Florida, became the first full factory rider in American motocross history when she was signed to a contract with Honda Red Bull Racing last year. Sarah Price of Canyon Lake also has a factory ride, from Kawasaki, but this weekend will mark her pro debut.

Jessica Patterson’s string of national championships was ended last year by Fiolek, and the Texan wants to return to the top. Sarah Whitmore is another top competitor, and she will debut with KTM at Glen Helen. Also challenging will be Sherri Cruse, a 2008 moto winner and the X Games bronze medalist. San Bernardino Sun
