Team Teka Suzuki WMX1 rider Steve Ramon will enter the 14th round of the 2008 FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship held at Lierop in the Netherlands this weekend looking to retake the MX1 championship lead at the circuit where he claimed his first MX1 world title 12 months ago.

Sitting just five points back from the current leader David Philippaerts, Ramon and his factory Suzuki RM-Z450 are more than ready to retake the series lead in Lierop and set themselves up in a great position to seal the deal at the final round of the championship that will be held in Faenza, Italy just one week later.

A solid rider no matter what the conditions - but especially competent in the sort of deep sandy going found at Lierop - Steve’s confident he has what it takes to be champion again in 2008.

“Lierop’s a deep sand track and it’s going to be a tough race but I’m looking forward to going there,” said Steve. “I’m feeling good at the moment and that’s really important because the last two GPs are going to be especially difficult. It’s going to be hard but we will see what happens. Of course I want to go for the title and it’s very close now - it’s going to exciting right until the end. My goal is to give my best and to win in Lierop!”

Steve’s Teka Suzuki WMX1 team-mate Ken De Dycker also enjoys riding in heavy conditions and will be looking to win in Lierop despite having bad memories of breaking his wrist there at a past race. Hoping to replace those bad memories with positive ones, his plan is simple - give 100 per cent in every race and try and improve on his current third place ranking in the 2008 championship season.

“I’ll try to do the best I can do in Lierop,” said De Dycker. “I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. I enjoy riding in sand and I know that I can win there - especially if I get a good start. I’ll just be concentrating on my performance this weekend, it’s still possible for me to win the championship but to do that I must give 100 per cent in every race from now until the end of the year but anything can happen.”

The weather forecast for this weekend’s race is for heavy rain throughout which shouldn’t affect the Lierop circuit in a negative way as the sandy surface is equally rideable while remaining challenging in the wet or dry.
