Team Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey has regained the lead in the AMA West Coast Supercross Lites class following his third victory of the season at Saturday’s seventh round in San Diego, California.

And in the Supercross class, team mate Chad Reed is now tied for the lead in the AMA/ FIM World Supercross series with Yamaha’s James Stewart after his sixth-consecutive runner-up position to the Yamaha rider.

Dungey led the field into the first corner, but was edged out for the Holeshot award by Ryan Morais (Kawasaki). But the RM-Z250 rider was soon back out front and then led every lap. He now carries a two-point lead into a seven-week break for the Western Regional championship.

Said Dungey: “I’m really pumped. I think I really rode an awesome race from start to finish. Sometimes when you’re given that kind of opportunity you need to take advantage of it and I think I did that tonight. I just want to thank my Rockstar/ Makita Suzuki team for everything.”

In the Supercross class, Rockstar/ Makita Suzuki’s Mike Alessi grabbed the holeshot in the 20-lap main event with Stewart and Reed in tow. But the duo quickly made their move past Alessi and opened a lead on the field.

The event also marked the comeback of the Rockstar Makita team’s Michael Byrne - sidelined from the first part of the season with injury - who finished eighth overall.

Said Reed: “I got great starts and I was there. I just wasn’t fast enough. James rode an awesome race and I want to thank the team for being patient with me all day. I’m happy to be second and once again San Diego was good to me. I want to thank my team and all my sponsors. We’re just keeping it consistent.”
