The Battersea power station standing abandoned and derelict on the River Thames will be injected with a surge of energy on Saturday 22 August as Red Bull X – Fighters fly into the nation’s capital. The Red Bull brand, which is strongly associated with daredevil sports including the notorious air races, has chosen one of London’s most iconic building’s for the Freestyle Motocross (FMX) event.
Twelve of the best motorbike riders in the world, including Robbie Maddison, who backflipped over London’s Tower Bridge in July this year, will be seeking to thrill the 17,000-strong crowd. They will be performing gravity-defying tricks in front of the famous white chimneys as they battle for the illustrious world title. Telegraph.co.uk
The four athletes in contention for the crown are Nate Adams, Eigo Sato, Robbie Maddison and last years champ Mat Rebeaud. Adams and Maddison have already claimed wins in the series (in Texas and Calgary, respectively), but Sato and Rebeaud have been incredibly consistent throughout the tour.
Watching the boys ride the Jesse Olson designed course, it’s easy to see that everyone looks comfortable. Sato has certainly shown some of his own wild style, while Adams, Maddison and Rebeaud all look very smooth. Adams claimed first blood with a leap from the 3-story window — a crazy jump through a tight gap that starts the clock counting for each run. ESPN Action Sports
