Assen Gets First Taste of A1GP Powered By Ferrari
Aug 03, 2008
In front of packed grandstands and with huge interest from spectators and press the A1GP Powered by Ferrari made its debut in the Netherlands.
With Renger van der Zande behind the wheel A1GP World Cup of Motorsport gave a demo with the brandnew A1GP car, powered by a 600 bhp Ferrari V8. With this car 23 nations will be competing against each other this season in the World Cup of Motorsport.
After an flying installation lap Van der Zande went out on track again for three flying laps, with the beautiful sounds of the Ferrari engine resonating across the Dutch circuit.
Later that afternoon Renger was present at the A1 Team Netherlands car in the paddock, which is on display there, to sign autographs for the many fans.
For Renger it was a fantastic expierence to be the first Dutch driver to drive the new A1GP car; “It was fantastic. There is so much interest and coverage, a lot of people that want to know everything about the car, see it and touch it. And I am the one that is allowed to drive some laps in it here today. The car feels really good, a lot of grip and also quite a bit of torque. There is already a lot of power in the low revs, then it just keeps going. It does not top out at the end of the straight as well. The car balance was quite ok straight out. I only drove for a short time, but everything felt ok. It is a high-tech car, with all modern developments like the clutch on the steering wheel. Very good.”
In two weeks time it is Rotterdam’s turn to meet the A1GP Powered by Ferrari. A1 Team Netherlands will give a demo with the new car there as well. After this the first test is scheduled before the 2008/09 season will start on the Mugello Circuit.
