The Spaniard Dani Pedrosa stole top spot from Marlboro Ducati rider Casey Stoner in the final seconds of the hour-long session with a lap of one minute 38.627 seconds to put his Repsol Honda at the head of the pack.
Pedrosa, who is currently fourth in the standings behind overall leader Valentino Rossi, had looked off the pace for the majority of the session but with the track constantly drying out from an earlier downpour eventually pipped Stoner by 0.245 seconds. The Press Association
Stoner, who only rode for 16 laps, was not even on the track to defend his position, instead spending the final few minutes discussing set-up with his team in the Ducati Marlboro garage.
Double 2009 race winner Stoner, victor at Donington for the past two seasons, set a best time 0.245s slower than US GP winner Pedrosa. Yahoo! Eurosport
Fiat Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi, who hasn’t won here since 2005, finished third .045 secs. behind Stoner. His best lap came in the final two minutes.

Repsol Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso jumped up to second with just over two minutes remaining, but was dropped first by Rossi, then by Pedrosa. He finished fourth.
