A brand new circuit in Hungary is set to be added to the MotoGP Championship calendar for the 2009 season.
If the new Balatonring circuit is built in time and also meets the requirements, it could stage round 14 of the series in September of next year.
The site is near Savoly, 180 kilometres from Budapest near the Lake Balaton holiday area, and will be built by Spanish investment group Sedesa at a cost of 80 million euros (£63m) and will create work for 800 people.
With a capacity of 110,000 to 140,000 people, the 4650m long Balatonring will begin construction in September.
MotoGP has a strong fanbase in Hungary, further increased by the success of Talmacsi in the 2007 season. Thousands of Hungarians watch World Championship races in person during the course of the season, with Grand Prix events held at Brno in the Czech Republic the most highly attended due to its close proximity to Hungary.
