Pepe World rider Axel Pons has suffered another setback in his quest to arrive at the opening race of the season in full fitness, picking up arm and ankle injuries in a crash at the Circuito de Jerez. The Spaniard may have to sit out the remainder of the MotoGP Official Test as a result of his latest misfortune.

Pons crashed on the final corner of the Spanish track during the combined 125cc/250cc session on afternoon, in an incident also involving Team Toth´s Mattia Pasini. A clash of fairings between the two on the final corner of the circuit took both riders to the ground, with Pasini’s wheel believed to have run over Pons’ arm.

Pons has encountered many difficulties on the road to becoming a World Championship rider, coming back from a serious leg fractures in the CEV Spanish Championship last year and most recently a heavy knock to his arm in Portugal. The latter injury was aggravated by Wednesday’s crash.
