Reigning 2010 Champion Jorge Lorenzo took third place after having to give best to his countryman while Marco Simoncelli, on the Gresini Honda, had to settle for fourth as Pedrosa’s pace pushed him down the order. He is only half a second off the pace, however.
Still-injured Ben Spies eventually took fifth after being third early on while Andrea Dovizioso was sixth, 0.7s in arrears.
LCR Honda’s Randy De Puniet is seventh and just 0.011 behind the Repsol Honda while Ducati privateer Hector Barbera pipped the works bike of Nicky Hayden for eighth. Rossi, amazingly, rounds out the top ten and yesterday’s third-placed man Colin Edwards is 12th. BSN
