Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo made it a hat-trick of victories as the Fiat Yamaha rider took advantage of his rivals’ mistakes to triumph in front of his home fans at the Catalunya MotoGP.
Lorenzo started in pole and, after a difficult start, never really looked like relinquishing his position as he claimed his fifth win of seven races with a flawless performance.
The victory, his third in a row, sees Lorenzo extend his lead at the top of the standings to 52 points over compatriot Dani Pedrosa.

Repsol Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso, third in the standings, had looked set to challenge Lorenzo all the way, with the Italian clinging close to the Spaniard’s back wheel before sliding out with 10 laps to go. The Press Association
The 23-year-old also became the first Yamaha rider since Eddie Lawson in 1986 to win three successive top class races from pole position - his win in Montmel coming after similar victories in Britain and the Netherlands.
“It was a very difficult race, very hot, and very tiring. The tyres were a real problem,” Lorenzo told Spanish state television.
Compatriot Dani Pedrosa came second on his Honda 4.754 seconds behind, just edging out Australia’s Casey Stoner (Ducati) who managed his second successive podium by finishing third.AFP
Frenchman Randy de Puniet finished fourth, Alvaro Bautista was fifth on his Suzuki with American Ben Spies sixth.
Loris Capirossi, Nicky Hayden, Marco Melandri and Hector Barbera rounded out the top ten, with Dovizioso getting back on to finish a distant 14th. SkySport
