Spaniard Dani Pedrosa continued his impressive form to top the second MotoGP practice session at a blustery and cold Silverstone this morning.
Pedrosa clocked a best time of 2.04.944 on his Repsol Honda RC212V to finish 0.297s clear of French rider Randy de Puniet in a session dominated by a series of high-speed crashes.
Pedrosa, who won the last race in Mugello to spark his title challenge into life, was the only rider to duck under the 2.05 barrier with Spanish rival Jorge Lorenzo in third place.
The Fiat Yamaha rider ended with a best time of 2.05.348 to finish 0.404s adrift of Pedrosa.
Fourth quickest was factory Ducati rider Casey Stoner, the Australian lapping over 0.5s slower than Pedrosa with a best time of 2.05.539. Motorcycle News
Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) recovered quickly from an early fall approaching Turn 10 – which forced De Puniet to run off as he avoided crashing into the Italian – to set the fifth best time of the session with his 19th and final lap, whilst Nicky Hayden (Ducati Marlboro) made a personal improvement of over two seconds to place sixth.
Marco Melandri (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team), Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) and Aleix Espargaró (Pramac Racing) completed the top ten.
There were also falls in the session for Héctor Barberá (Páginas Amarillas Aspar) – at Turn 4 – and Simoncelli at Turn 3, and both returned to the track shortly after. Ben Spies (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) had a slow speed crash going through Turn 12 which appeared to cause him some discomfort. MotoGP
