Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo extended his championship lead with a flawless performance from pole position to win the Dutch MotoGP in Assen.
The Yamaha rider finished well clear of Honda’s Dani Pedrosa with Australia’s Casey Stoner third on a Ducati.
Lorenzo, the winner at Silverstone last Sunday, now has four wins in six GPs and leads the championship by 47 points from his compatriot Pedrosa.
“This race has been a little bit more difficult than Silverstone,” said Lorenzo afterwards.
“I was surprised by the times that Casey and Dani were posting and I had to up it a gear or two to stay out in front and win the race.”
Pedrosa said: “I am surprised with the result as practice was a nightmare where we tried everything and nothing worked.
“I would like to thank the team as they worked a miracle to get me this result and let us just hope that it is easier in the Catalan MotoGP next weekend.” BBC Sport
Andrea Dovizioso, who headed into the race second in the championship, struggled to match the pace of the front-runners and ended up embroiled in a battle for fourth place.
American rookie Ben Spies, who was on the podium in the last race at Silverstone, continued to impress by passing the Italian to take fourth with 10 laps remaining - a position he maintained until the chequered flag.
A recovering de Puniet entered the scrap as well, but was eventually edged out by Dovizioso for fifth. Nicky Hayden finished well behind de Puniet in seventh while Colin Edwards was eighth. SkySports
Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) and Aleix Espargaró (Pramac Racing) took top-ten finishes. Marco Melandri (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) was absent from the race after he dislocated his left shoulder in the second free practice session on Friday.
The result extended Lorenzo’s lead at the top of the Championship further and he now stands on 140 points after six rounds, having finished in the top two in every race. Pedrosa moved into second on 93 with his podium finish, ahead of Dovizioso who is third on 89. MotoGP
