Spain’s Jorge Lorenzo, on a Yamaha, won the French Grand Prix, the third race of the season, on Sunday to cement his lead in the MotoGP championship.
Lorenzo’s teammate, world champion and pole sitter Valentino Rossi, took second with Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso grabbing third at the historic Bugatti circuit.
Lorenzo, who set off from second place on the grid, completed the race in a time of 44min 29.114s to comfortably hold off Rossi, the Italian coming in almost six seconds behind.
The win moved Lorenzo, who was adding this to his success in the second leg of the fledgling 2010 season on home tarmac in Spain, up to 70 points, with Rossi, who took the opening race in Qatar, now nine points adrift. Times of India
Hayden finished fourth for the third consecutive race, with Pedrosa ending the race in fifth. Melandri was sixth as a switch of suspension paid off for him, with Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda) taking seventh in his home GP.
The top ten was completed by Barberá, Aleix Espargaró (Pramac Racing) and Simoncelli. Aoyama took 11th place, and was followed by Edwards and Mika Kallio (Pramac Racing). MotoGP
Twelfth-placed Colin Edwards was the only Tech 3 rider to reach the flag, in any race, on Sunday. The French-based team’s Moto2 riders both crashed out of their race, while Ben Spies did likewise - for his second DNF in a row - while holding 11th on lap seven of the MotoGP main event.
The lone starting Suzuki of Loris Capirossi also crashed out at around the same time, while the injured Mika Kallio (Pramac) rode to a lonely 13th and last.
Lorenzo is now nine points ahead of Rossi after three of 18 rounds, with Stoner only 13th heading into the Italian Grand Prix - a home round for Ducati and Rossi. Yahoo! Eurosport
