Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo set the fastest time in second practice at Sepang on Saturday, with Ducati’s Casey Stoner right on his tail.
Lorenzo responded to Fiat Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi’s dominant performance in Friday’s laps by posting a best time of two minutes 01.949 seconds.
Stoner was a mere 0.022 seconds behind, with the pair the only riders to get under 2:02 ahead of Saturday afternoon’s qualifiers. Sportal.com.au
The pair were the only two to get under 2’02” in the session, with the Ducati Team rider just over two-tenths of a second faster than Rossi who was third in the session with a time of 2’02.192.
Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) was fourth with rookie Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini) an impressive fifth at 0.594s off Lorenzo’s pace. He was followed by Álvaro Bautista as the Rizla Suzuki rider continued his strong weekend with the sixth best time in the session, also marking the second best top speed with the new engine installed yesterday.
Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda), Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), Héctor Barberá (Paginas Amarillas Aspar) and Ben Spies completed the top ten in the session.
