Gresini Honda’s Marco Simoncelli set the fastest time in this morning wet and windy MotoGP first free practice session which saw five crashes from four riders and Valentino Rossi visit the medical centre for an injured arm.
Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner was the first to crash at turn 11 and he was followed by Toni Elias, Rossi, Elias again and then Pedrosa all at the same right-hander at the top of the hill.
The Doctor had an arm injury patched up in the medical centre while Pedrosa was lucky to escape hurting his shoulder again.
Four crashes were at the top of the Waterfall and were front-ends, even though Stoner turned his into a highside. Elias’s second was into turn one. BSN

MotoGP: German Grand Prix - First Practice Results
The Italian, riding for San Carlo Honda Gresini, topped the charts with a time of one minute 22.823 seconds at the Sachsenring.
Championship leader Casey Stoner was second fastest on his Repsol Honda, 0.181 behind Simoncelli.
Reigning world champion, Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo, was third quickest for Yamaha, 0.223 off the pace.
Ducati’s Nicky Hayden and Stoner’s team-mate, Italian Andrea Dovizioso, were fourth and fifth respectively. sportal.co.in

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), who had started session with good pace before crashing in turn 11, managed eleventh after reentering the session, ahead of Álvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) in 12th with a time of 1’23.989. Cal Crutchlow (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) had an early runoff in turn 8, finishing in 13th position with a time of 1’24.162.
Valentino Rossi fell victim to the same corner 11, tumbling in the gravel, though walking away from the crash. The Italian was taken to the Medical Center to be checked out and was found to have no serious injuries, though the lost track time placed him 14th in the standings, while Toni Elías (LCR Honda) only completed a total of seven laps after crashing twice, first in turn 11 and then in turn 1, to place sixteenth. motogp.com
