Fiat Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo has set the fastest time in today’s final MotoGP free practice session at a wet Estoril, fending off a late charge by team-mate Valentino Rossi to finish half a second ahead of the Italian with Repsol Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso bagging third with his final circulation.

Casey Stoner crept up to fourth and towed the Monster Yamaha of Colin Edwards with him and Marco Simoncelli, who was third for most of the hour-long session, was eventually bumped down to the outside of a theoretical second row, 1.6s off the pace.

Only Lorenzo, who crashed at turn 13 with only a few minutes to go, and Rossi topped the timesheet for the business half of the session in conditions that were similar to yesterday afternoon.
