Australian rider Casey Stoner has continued his early season dominance of the MotoGP competition, breaking the lap record as he took out the first practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez on Friday.

With MotoGP heading back to its European heartland for the first time in 2011, Stoner maintained his quality early-season form with his new Repsol-Honda team, edging out team-mate Dani Pedrosa in the morning session.

Stoner produced a time of 1:39.551 around the Jerez circuit as he beat Pedrosa’s previous record of 1:39.731. Sportal.com.au
