Former MotoGP World Championship runner-up Marco Melandri has been keeping himself busy whilst awaiting the resolution of his premier class future, and the Italian will be back behind the wheel of a Speedcar this weekend as his four-wheel experience continues to increase.
Speedcar Series will run the fourth round of the season at the Dubai Autodrome on February 27-28, 2009. MotoGP rider Marco Melandri will return for the race weekend to try and repeat his surprising performance in Qatar with better results.
Mid way through the season now with the first three rounds completed in Dubai, Bahrain and a night event in Qatar, the top order contending for the Speedcar Series Season 2 Championship title is tightly packed.
Melandri shocked the Speedcar field by staying in the lead for almost the entire second race at Qatar on February 14 - his lead peaking at a massive 7.5 seconds - before being sidelined by a broken gearbox just four laps from the finish, handing victory to former F1 racer Vitantonio Liuzzi.
Meanwhile, the Italian’s 2009 MotoGP plans remain in doubt after Kawasaki’s factory withdraw and no confirmation that the ZX-RRs will remain on the grid with a privateer team.
