Not many kids get scouted by Michael Jordan. But the NBA legend sought out Roseville’s Cameron Beaubier, admiring his smooth moves and marveling at his fearless style.
Jordan didn’t care if the 5-foot-5 high school freshman likely will never dunk a basketball. Jordan’s new passion is motorcycle racing (he owns a team), and Beaubier is among America’s fastest rising stars.
“He’s really, really big, ” Beaubier said of his November introduction to Jordan while the teen competed in Spain. “His hands are huge. We shook hands, and his hand wrapped all the way around my arm. But he’s a real nice guy. “
Beaubier, who turned 15 on Dec. 6, has literally been racing around the globe. In 2007, he was part of the inaugural Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, competing in nine European countries. He won one race and finished sixth in the overall standings.
