Dani Pedrosa will not take part in Monday’s post race test at Catalunya, in order to rest his injured hip.
The Repsol Honda rider cracked his thigh two weeks’ ago at Mugello and needed pain killing injections during each day of his home Grand Prix of Catalunya.
“It’s been a very hard weekend and I finished the race exhausted and in a lot of pain, but I don’t regret being here this weekend trying to do my best,” said last year’s Catalunya winner. “I didn’t want to miss my home race and even though sixth position is not the best result in front of my fans, I’m happy with it.”
On the advice of his team and doctors, Pedrosa will sit out Monday’s test, the first of only two opportunities for non-grand prix track time during the racing season.
“The doctors told me that this fracture needs time to heal so I’m going to rest as much as possible and see what the progress is for Assen,” he said. “The team asked me not test tomorrow to give me the best chance to recover and it’s a sensible decision.”
Despite his brave effort Pedrosa has slipped from fourth to fifth in the world championship, two points behind team-mate Andrea Dovizioso.
Dovizioso will test the modified RC212V chassis on Monday.
