Jorge Lorenzo has taken full responsibility for the incident which saw the Fiat Yamaha rider crash out of the FIM MotoGP World Championship race at Jerez in Spain.
Lorenzo was in fourth place when he fell from his machine after going into his home race with high expectations.

Lorenzo said: “The crash on Sunday was my fault and there is no reason to go looking for excuses. There’s no point blaming the tyres or saying the track was hotter than on Saturday, because if I had been quicker at the start of the race I wouldn’t have had to risk it so much at the end.” The Press Association
Having started on pole in front of 120,000 passionate fans on home territory the Fiat Yamaha youngster was hoping to repeat his superb Motegi win, but looked off colour in the early stages and was pushing hard in his game of catch up with Casey Stoner for third place when he hit the deck.
Although his team have promised to closely examine all the factors which contributed to his first 2009 DNF, Lorenzo stated, “The crash on Sunday was my fault and there is no reason to go looking for excuses. There’s no point blaming the tyres or saying the track was hotter than on Saturday, because if I had been quicker at the start of the race I wouldn’t have had to risk it so much at the end.”
“I’m not sure what I would do exactly if the race was run again, but it’s clear in my mind now that chasing Stoner down was more risky than I had realised before the crash,” Lorenzo continued. “The good thing about having learned to keep calm and control myself is that my thoughts are cooler and more calculated, so now I don’t get so angry about crashes like this.”
“I’ve had ups and downs throughout my career so I know what I’m talking about. In the past it took me ages to get over the low points and I found it easy to get down about things, but now I know how to turn over a new leaf as quickly as possible.” MotoGP
