Undertaking a summer fitness programme Randy de Puniet was participating in a motocross session last Saturday afternoon with his personal trainer Yves Demaria (a former motocross rider) in Aix en Provence, when he crashed on entering a corner, hitting his left leg heavily.
The 28 year-old was taken straight to hospital and x-rays showed a fracture of the left ankle. After a quick surgery to insert a screw into his ankle De Puniet left hospital on Monday and will meet Clinica Mobile staff in the next few days to organise his rehabilitation. Hopefully we will be racing in Brno in less than two weeks’ time. motogp.com
He said “Yves and I planned a specifc traning programme to improve my performance on track this year. This programme helped me a lot so far and, though the summer break, I could not stop training for 2 weeks time. That’s why we went out to make a short motocross training. Unfortunately I had a fall and the impact on the ground caused me the fracture of the left ankle. I am very disappointed for this inconvenience but traning is very important for me to be well fitted on track. Will do my best to race in Brno and I am sure that the Clinica Mobile staff will support me in the best way.” Superbike News
The injury is a massive blow for de Puniet coming immediately after he claimed only his second MotoGP podium finish with a third place in tricky conditions at Donington Park last month.
He is due to have consultations with Clinica Mobile staff in the next few days to try and be fit for Brno, which sees the introduction of the new engine restrictions.
Riders will only be able to use five engines in the final seven races. Motorcycle News
