Valentino Rossi sent out an ominous warning to his FIM MotoGP World Championship rivals as he easily outpaced them in first practice at Jerez.
The reigning champion has cut a frustrated figure during the opening two rounds of the season that have been blighted by rain, but in near-perfect conditions in southern Spain the Italian produced his best.

Rossi lapped in a time of one minute 39.647 seconds to stand head and shoulders above his rivals, with his countrymen Loris Capirossi the next fastest some 0.364secs behind. The Associated Press
The Yamaha rider and defending world champion completed the 4.4-kilometer (2.7-mile) course in 1 minute, 39.647 seconds during a 45-minute session. Rossi completed 21 laps.
Rossi’s teammate, Jorge Lorenzo of Spain, had the fourth best time with 1:40.441. USA Today

Loris Capirossi was second, 0.364 seconds behind on his Suzuki, with Australia’s Caser Stoner third after timing one minute, 40.268 seconds on his Ducati. Fox Sports
