Reigning FIM 250cc World Champion Marco Simoncelli has undergone successful surgery on his wrist after suffering a heavy fall in at the weekend.
According to the official MotoGP website, Simoncelli had a screw inserted into the bone on Tuesday but is nevertheless expected to board the plane for the season-opener in Qatar this weekend.

However, after undergoing a new surgical technique, the Clinica Mobile states that the Gilera star’s Losail participation “which had seemed impossible after the accident and injury, is now a possibility”.
“Marco’s fracture is important, however, because of the race being so close time-wise.”

Should this weekend come too soon for Simoncelli, the 22-year-old would begin the defence of his 250cc crown at the second round of the season in Japan on April 26.
