Attempting to rebuild his confidence onboard his Desmosedici GP8 following his costly crash at Brno on Sunday, Casey Stoner again demonstrated the competitiveness of his current Ducati Marlboro package with a 1.55.855s lap of the Czech circuit on Tuesday.
The time was by far the quickest of any undertaken by the eleven riders in attendance testing their 800cc prototypes and kept Stoner ahead of Czech Republic race-winner, and second fastest Tuesday participant, Valentino Rossi, by a margin of 0.758s.
Stoner had been tyre testing in an effort to reduce the angle of lean that he carries in corners and keep the bike more upright, allowing better entry and exit speeds – and Ducati believe they have found a way of doing this. The high lean angle is what Stoner blames for his Sunday crash so he will be happy to have made progress on the issue.
Rizla Suzuki were satisfied by the durability of the new Bridgestone front tyres on offer as their riders Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen concluded the day third and fourth respectively.
