The Australian is the in-form rider after back-to-back victories in Britain and in Holland, where he finished an impressive 11 seconds ahead of a field lead by Spaniard Dani Pedrosa and Colin Edwards.
Those two wins put the 22-year-old Ducati rider back in the championship frame - after going six races with out a win - and Stoner is looking to the German Grand Prix to claw back yet more points on standings leader Pedrosa.
“It will be good if we can keep up these sort of results, but it is going to be very hard,” said Stoner.
“We have had a couple of good weekends so we have got to keep working harder than anybody else to make sure we maintain this form.”
It’s a remarkable comeback for the Aussie flyer, who for most of the season has been chasing the heels of long-time championship leader Valentino Rossi.
But Rossi suffered a nightmare at the Dutch Grand Prix, crashing out on the first lap while trying to overtake Randy de Puniet, to allow Pedrosa to leap-frog him at the standings summit.
“We feel quite confident for Sachsenring,” said Stoner, who is 29 points behind championship leader Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda).
“The bike has been perfect for the last two races and I expect it to go well at Sachsenring too.”
Stoner’s best result at the 2.281-mile Sachsenring came with second place in the 2003 125cc race, a record in stark contrast to those of Pedrosa and Rossi.
Spaniard Pedrosa won last year’s race by a huge margin, while Rossi has frequently shone on the circuit.
“Sachsenring has been a great track for me in the past and it’s a great place to race at,” said Rossi.
“It’s very tight and twisty but it generally suits the Yamaha very well and in 2006 I had a fantastic race there, winning from 11th.”
