Britain’s James Toseland believes he can improve on a disappointing first year in MotoGP and challenge for victories when the new season begins in Qatar.
“I’m aiming for a race win this year and it’s down to me and the team to make it happen,” he said. “I think the [Yamaha] bike is capable of finishing in the top six of the championship, definitely. I’ll start by looking at that position and then hopefully build on it.”

This season’s opener is at the Losail circuit in Qatar, a track which holds happy memories for Toseland. He qualified second and finished sixth – just behind Rossi – on his MotoGP debut there last year.
“Qatar is the only race we have at night, so heat isn’t going to be a factor,” Toseland said. “It’s also a pretty fast circuit and I think that will suit the Yamaha I’ll be riding.”

“I’m looking forward to a strong showing in the race. It apparently only rains six days of the year here and it rained the other day, so we’d be pretty unlucky if it turns out to be wet on the day of the race.”
