Suzuki MotoGP rider Chris Vermeulen is looking forward to returning ‘home’ this week for the Dutch TT at the famous Assen circuit.
Born in Brisbane, Vermeulen calls Australia at home, but he has strong family ties to Holland and will be looking to impress with a first top-five finish of the season.
He has put in some strong performances at Assen, including pole position in 2007, but he has never finished better than seventh in three MotoGP races, however he did have a win at the track in Superbikes.
“I really look forward to going to Assen. Holland is where my family came from so there are always people around that remember my grandfather and tell me how they are related to me - so I feel like a bit of me is coming home,” he said.
“I enjoy riding at Assen and I have won there in World Superbikes, but I have never quite got the results I think I’ve deserved - or certainly wanted - in MotoGP. I hope this will be the weekend when that all changes.”
Team-mate Loris Capirossi was delighted with his fifth-place finish at Catalunya and is hopeful of another strong finish this weekend with the new spec engine.
