Jorge Lorenzo will miss the second MotoGP testing session of the year at the end of the month after injuring his right hand in a training accident.
The 22-year-old Fiat Yamaha rider, who was world championship runner-up last year, fell off a motocross bike going at 30kmh on a course near Barcelona.
Lorenzo was taken to hospital and found to have a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal and a displaced thumb. BBC Sport
Lorenzo will require hand protection for four to six weeks.
The Fiat Yamaha rider left the hospital on Friday morning and returned to his home to begin his recuperation. He will not participate in the Sepang test, which is scheduled for February 25-26, but is expected to make a full recovery in time for the final pre-season test in Qatar, which is due to take place from March 18-19.
