Danny Eslick only need one word to describe his job.
“Awesome.”
He grew up around motorcycle racing in Oklahoma, he’s been racing since he was 5.
“It’s what I grew up doing and knowing. It’s a big family thing. It’s always been my Mom and my brother and sister and me going to the races. It’s just been a life-long thing in my family,” said Eslick.
Now with 5 wins on the season, he’s just 10 points behind Marin Cardenas in the Daytona Sportbike championship points race.
“Nobody expected that going into the year,” said Eslick. KTKA.com
“There’s a lot of confidence after winning back-to-back races at Ohio and we made a big gain in points,” Eslick said Thursday during a break in practice. “You always want to be leading, but I think in the position we’re in now with the championship race, you’re going to have a lot more pressure leading going into the last couple of rounds because you know it’s yours to lose.”
“I’m not in a bad position at all. Martin has the bull’s eye on his back and I’ve got my sights set on him, so I’m looking forward to some really good racing.”
Eslick, who lives in Broken Arrow, Okla., said he won’t take any unnecessary risks to overtake Cardenas, but he promised that he’s not going to hold back either.
“If you’re second you’ve got to take calculated risks to gain that ground, but then when it comes right down to it you’d rather go for it instead of saying, ‘Well, I could’ve, should’ve, would’ve,’ ” Eslick said.
The good news for Eslick and the No. 9 GEICO Powersports Buell 1125R team is that Eslick appears to be back on top of his game heading into the stretch run.
Eslick won three of the first five races of the season, but then went seven straight races without a victory before his Mid-Ohio sweep. Topeka Capital Journal
