Billy McConnell gave Raceways Yamaha the perfect start to the 2009 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship after prevailing in a final lap exchange with Dan Linfoot and Steve Plater.
Starting from pole position, although McConnell was beaten down to the first corner by both Gearlink Kawasakis, he would eventually assume the lead again by the end of the opening lap. From here, McConnell would be embroiled in a race-long fight with a charging Linfoot, who had moved on lap four.
“That was unbelievable and a big relief to us and the team. Steve has put a lot of faith in me and I really wanted to repay him and the team. So pole position and the race win is a good start to the season.”
