The Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader returns to Road America, June 4-7, 2009, to mark the 20th running of the AMA Championship Road Races at Road America. This annual event draws thousands of two-wheel enthusiasts to watch riders claim the fastest times of the cycle-racing season. The historic circuit is a rider favorite with its 4 miles of high-speed straight-aways, 14 turns, rolling elevation changes and ample passing areas.
Reaching speeds of 195 mph, the premier and highly competitive Superbike class maximizes the track’s opportunities for speed and passing. Current Superbike point leaders Mat Mladin, Tommy Hayden and Josh Hayes will battle for points in a doubleheader race. The new SportBike class will also hold a doubleheader with Martin Cardenas, Jamie Hacking and Danny Eslick leading in points. Support races include SuperSport and Moto-GT.
On Saturday and Sunday officials will open the grid to the fans allowing them to mingle with riders and the teams during pre-race festivities. Ceremonies will feature a color guard provided by the Wisconsin National Guard, Plymouth-based Battery B 121st Field Artillery unit, live vocal presentations of the National Anthem, and skydivers from Skydive Adventure carrying both United States and POW flags in their descent to the front
straight.
The Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader is a traditional celebration of summer for cycle fans who return yearly to enjoy the facility’s natural park-like atmosphere, spectacular racing and on-site camping. New to this year’s event is a Saturday night party featuring the Oil Can Harry Band and Evolution Fighting championships. A full weekend of fan activities also includes Aprilia, Buell and Ducati demo rides; autograph sessions; public karting; stunt shows; a drag race exhibition; and trial exhibitions by NATC Champion Patrick Smage. Fans can ride
their own motorcycles on the legendary track by participating in the Dairyland Insurance Salute to Cycles, Friday-Sunday.
