A 21-year-old chef has admitted causing £30,000 of damage to a £1m Ferrari belonging to Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay, while he was drunk.
Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay, with his $1.4 million Ferrari Enzo in tow, checked in to the Brundenell Hotel in England to get some rest. During his stay, his “over-the-top attitude” angered the hotel’s chef, Aaron Billington.
Billington and some friends were socializing with Kay in the hotel bar. A few drinks in, Kay allegedly made some derogatory comments. One report says he ridiculed the cars that the others owned, while bragging about his Enzo.
Billington became enraged and was later seen hurling rocks at Kay’s Enzo. He shattered the windsceen and driver’s side window, causing about $42,000 in damage.
Lowestoft Magistrates’ Court heard Billington committed the crime in a “moment of madness” after becoming upset by “offensive” remarks the singer made.
Robert Barnwell, prosecuting, said the singer and two other people witnessed the Ferrari being damaged from the star’s hotel room.
He said Billington was seen “using swinging motions with his arms” as he threw stones at the car, shattering the windscreen and smashing the driver’s side window.
During a police interview, Billington admitted causing the damage.
“He said he knew whose vehicle it was and stated that he had fallen out with Mr Kay,” said Mr Barnwell.
