Meeting Jenson and falling in love with him plunged her into an exciting, if alien, world, and the two years she spent following him around the circuit (he has homes in Monaco and London, but most of the time they were staying in trailers) were “wonderful” (a word she uses a great deal).
Even now, after their parting, she worries about him when he is racing and longs for him to achieve the success of his fellow British driver Lewis Hamilton (a stony expression crosses her face at the mention of Hamilton and she says quickly, “I won’t comment on him”).
“I really hope Jenson fulfils his dream and makes it all the way to win the World Championship - he really deserves it, ” she says with genuine affection.
Does she have an ultimate ambition?
“I would like to be happy - oh my goodness, I sound like one of those cliché Miss Universe contestants who say their most fervent desire is world peace.
“And successful - not to make pots of money, but to be fulfilled in my career and then eventually, because I am only 22, to marry and have a family… ” she says with such a sweet, shy smile that you cannot help but think that in the wake of their split Jenson Button has lost more than just a World Championship tactician.
