This hi-tech machine is the realisation of a 30-year dream to create a motor which can take to the skies.
Billed as a “light-sport airplane”, the Terrafugia Transition goes from road to runway at the flick of a switch. And it could be this year’s ultimate Christmas present.
With an airborne range of 460 miles and a cruising speed of 115mph, the manufacturers say the plane promises to bring “more flexibility and convenience to your flying”.
A spokeswoman for designers Terrafugia, based in Woburn, Massachusetts, USA, said: “You can keep your Transition in your garage.”
“Then you simply drive to your local airport, fly up to 460 miles, land, convert and drive directly to your destination.
Converting the white craft from plane to car and vice versa is via a series of simple commands and can be done from the cockpit.
But the wings will only fold out if the correct key code is entered by someone who has a pilot’s licence.
