BRISTOL, Tenn. – While Kyle Busch decided earlier in the season to cut back on the number of NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Nationwide Series events he participated in, that will not be the case at Bristol Motor Speedway during August race week.
For the third consecutive year the 23-year-old Busch will be going for the hat trick at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile, competing in the O’Reilly 200 Aug. 20, the Food City 250 Aug. 22 and the sold-out Sharpie 500 Aug. 23.
That is 950 laps of racing over four days at a track deemed one of the most physically demanding in the country. It is a pretty challenging schedule but Busch is not concerned. Especially since his resume, which includes a Sprint Cup and Nationwide win at the. 533-mile oval, is missing something.
“Bristol is one of the most fun tracks we go to,” said Busch. “Now that I have a Cup and Busch win, I want a Truck Series win too. Running all three races will give me a bunch more track time.”
“Actually, running in the Truck Series is just a lot of fun for me. It’s competitive and tough. And, if I can get a win at Bristol I know I’ve beaten some of the best racers out there.”
Busch is the lone driver competing in all three night races at BMS but not the only Cup driver who will be in the field Wednesday night. Jimmie Johnson, making his Truck Series debut, will pilot the No. 81 ride owned by NFL star Randy Moss.
Entering the O’Reilly 200, Johnny Benson, who won this race a year ago, is atop the point standings by 45 over Ron Hornaday (2261-2216). Matt Crafton is third (2170), followed by Todd Bodine (2042) and Mike Skinner (2026).
