Kyle Busch put on a dominating performance, but had to pass James Buescher for the lead with less than two laps remaining to win Saturday’s TheRaceDayRaffleSeries.com 175 Camping World Truck Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Busch, who also won this race at New Hampshire one year ago, started on the pole and led 156 of 175 laps. But Buescher took the lead with 10 laps to go when he moved underneath Busch and Kevin Harvick while those two were battling for the top position.
A caution for an incident involving defending series champion Ron Hornaday Jr. set up a two-lap shootout to the finish. After the final restart, Busch passed Buescher on the backstretch and then held him off at the finish by 0.28 seconds for his fifth win of the season and the 21st of his Truck Series career. He has now won 80 races combined in all three of NASCAR’s national touring series. MiamiHerald.com
“It was a tight battle with me and Harvick the whole race,” said Busch, who won in the Truck series for the fifth time this year. “He was beating my back bumper and ran me up the track and let Buescher get by. I had to work back around him.”
Buescher finished second, followed by Harvick, Matt Crafton and Austin Dillon.
“I had a pretty good restart, but Kyle raced hard in one and two and about squeezed us in the fence off two,” Buescher said. FOXNews
“You have to do what you have to do in order to win the races coming down toward the end,” Busch said. “On the last restart on a green-white checkered, you’ve got to go.”
Buescher and Busch were clearly unhappy with each other toward the end of the race. After the race ended, Busch pulled up to Buescher and extended his middle finger. Buescher called out Busch after he lost his shot at first Trucks win.
Buescher was angry at getting hit so late in the race.
“He just drove us dirty and got the win,” Buescher said. “Being that close is one thing, but getting it taken away from you like that is a totally different thing. If you’re faster, you’re going to pass him. You don’t have to race him so dirty and flat-out try to wreck you to try and get the lead and that’s what he did.” The Associated Press
Harvick watched the incident between Busch and Buescher and offered his own perspective.
“I saw the 31 take off, and the 18 got a run on the bottom, and it looked to me like the 18 just drove over the front of him—that’s what it looked like,” said Harvick, who had raced side-by-side with Busch for large segments of the race. “I turned all the way to the left, because I thought they were going to be hung together—wrecked.
“But look, this is a short track, and everybody’s digging for everything they can get. I bounced off of Kyle as many times as he bounced off of everybody else. It’s not anything that any of us wouldn’t do to the other 10 times over again.” NASCAR.com
