Kyle Busch became a first time winner as both driver and owner in the Camping World Truck Series by taking Friday’s Nashville 200 at Nashville Superspeedway.
Busch started on the pole and led all but 19 of the 150 laps, but had to hold off a hard-charging Kevin Harvick in the closing laps to give Kyle Busch Motorsports its maiden truck win in just the team’s fourth start. Canada.com
“It’s a big deal,” Busch said. “It’s always nice to win anytime you’re in anybody’s stuff. But especially in your own, it seems to sit a lot better within yourself. This is a big deal that we’ve taken on this year and [my fiancée] Samantha being a part of that, too.
“There was a lot of blood, sweat and tears this winter put into this deal. ... I’m very proud of everybody and the way they’ve worked so hard this year.” NASCAR.com
The last time Busch ran at Nashville Superspeedway he made headlines for smashing the trophy, a hand-painted custom Gibson guitar, last June in a Nationwide Series race. This time, he didn’t destroy the guitar.
“I gave the guitar to Sam (Bass, the painter) and said if he wants to do any damage to my truck he could have at it,” Busch said. “But he didn’t feel like it. It’s as good as it can be to come back to Nashville and win a race and put on great show in front of the fans.”
On lap 120, Harvick pulled alongside Busch on the front stretch, but couldn’t complete the pass. It was as close Harhvick would get for the rest of the race.
“I just slid the truck several times there,” Harvick said. “I got a big slide there at the end and I couldn’t make up for it.” The Associated Press
Following Busch and Harvick across the finish line were Ron Hornaday, Harvick’s teammate, then Timothy Peters and Todd Bodine. In a race that had only two cautions, only eight drivers finished on the lead lap, with Matt Crafton in sixth, Mike Skinner in seventh and Aric Almirola in eighth.
