The Tallahassee driver began negotiating Tuesday with two finalists who are bidding for him to drive in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series next season. More talks between Mitchell, his sponsors and the prospective teams are scheduled for today in Charlotte, N.C.
Mitchell, a 24-year-old Maclay School graduate, is making the move to the Craftsman Series after driving in 12 ARCA races last season. He’s making the switch to the prestigious truck series because it could be a faster course to racing cars on the Nextel Cup circuit, he said.
A decision on which team he’ll race for could be made before the weekend, Mitchell said. Ergon, an oil refining company, also will continue to sponsor his ride.
