Rick Crawford, a Mobile native who drives the No. 14 Ford Power Stroke Diesel for Circle Bar Racing, said today that he has agreed to buy the track from current owner Bill Manfull and has sent an earnest-money check to the auction company handling the sale. The sale is contingent on the city granting a new license to operate the track.

The asking price for the track had been reported as more than $500,000 but Crawford declined to say how much he will pay for it. He said he’ll end up spending at least as much on improvements and upgrades.

He said he also hopes to have the dragstrip on the property back in operation as well as the karting track. And he said the track would need to host other events as well.

“My future only holds a few more years of driving and I’ll have more time on my hands,” Crawford said. “Montgomery Speedway might not be the only speedway I end up owning.”

“I plan to work well with others. I may not always play well with others in the Craftsman Truck Series, but you want to be in conjunction with other tracks,” he said.
