Veteran driver Ron Hornaday Jr. has turned the Texas Motor Speedway into his personal path to another possible championship.

Hornaday swept the season’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck races at Texas Motor Speedway when he ran away from young gun Kyle Busch to win the Chevy Silverado 350K Friday night before an unofficial crowd of 65,500. Hornaday has been a perfect fit for the cowboy hat in Victory Lane.

“No matter what I do, Benson’s right there,” Hornaday said after the race. “So it’s going to come down to the end of it.”

“I’m pretty good at Phoenix, and Johnny’s pretty good there, too, so we’ll just see what happens,” Hornaday said. “This is pretty cool. Two more races and we’ll see.”

His point has to be considered well taken when it comes to producing year-end, championship-determining excitement. Even without a Chase, the trucks series has been, and is again, NASCAR’s champion of championships.

With three races left, starting with tonight’s Chevy Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway, Johnny Benson leads Hornaday by 31 points.

Better than that, the lead has gone back and forth between the two, three times over the last three races.
