Kyle Busch didn’t have the fastest truck Saturday, and he had barely enough fuel to make it to the finish line. Neither circumstance prevented him from winning his third consecutive start in the Camping World Truck Series and his fifth race of the season.

Busch took the checkered flag in the Heluva Good! 200 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, as points leader and runner-up Ron Hornaday and his team owner and third-place finisher, Kevin Harvick, battled for position behind him. NASCAR

“I was going to be all right with a second or a third,’’ Busch said. “I think that’s the truck we had today. But sometimes you’ve got to let these things play out and today we did . . . It left the door open for me to win the race, so I don’t care. I’m glad I didn’t have to race Harvick, because he had the better tires and the better truck.

A three-lap caution allowed him to preserve fuel, and he ended up with just enough to finish the race, run a cooldown lap, and do a mini burnout before running out as he drove into victory lane. Boston Globe
