Saturday’s Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway might be enough to make Timothy Peters a believer in numerology.

Driving the No. 1 Red Horse Racing Toyota for the first time this season, at a venue the Danville, Va., driver considers his home track, Peters collected his first victory in 64 starts in the Camping World Truck Series.

“The No. 1 was number one [Saturday],” said the 29-year-old Peters, who drove the No. 17 Tundra in the first 20 races of the season. “I can’t believe it. Words can’t describe what I’m feeling right now. ...  NASCAR

Todd Bodine finished second and Colin Braun third.

Points leader Ron Hornaday Jr. had a roller-coaster ride to fourth place, recovering from an early pit-road penalty for speeding to stretch his points lead over ninth-finishing Matt Crafton. His 224-point lead is the widest margin with four races left in the history of the truck series.

“This is one hurdle we had to jump and we jumped it,” said Hornaday, who was one of several drivers to congratulate Peters on his victory by dousing him with water. “When those other guys came and got tires, I thought we were a sitting duck, but it was a good call.” USA Today
