The only thing Austin Dillon messed up was his victory slide into the infield grass.

Dillon won his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race of the season on Friday night, taking the Lucas Deep Clean 200 at Nashville Superspeedway by 3.981 seconds over points leader Johnny Sauter.

Timothy Peters had the dominant truck for most of the race with 67 laps led, but during a round of pit stops under caution in the late going, Peters slipped back to third after taking four new tires.

Dillon took just two tires and came out of the pits first, followed by Sauter, who put on four. After the restart, Sauter quickly moved around Dillon and took over the lead just before the third and final caution came when Max Papis’ engine expired in turn two. His truck then erupted into flames but managed to escape unharmed.

Dillon made his winning pass on Sauter shortly after the third and final restart of the race.

Dillon became the fourth driver in a row to start on the pole and win a truck race at Nashville.

With the win, Dillon moved to within 18 points of Sauter. MiamiHerald.com
