Kyle Busch took the lead with seven laps remaining en route to a victory in the NASCAR Trucks Series race Friday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
It was the second straight Trucks win for Busch and his fourth in the series this year.
Busch’s victory came hours after he claimed the pole for Saturday’s Sprint Cup All-Star race. WHNS Greenville
“It feels good to be getting close to 100,” said Busch, who won the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. “Those are two huge names to match up with.”
Busch passed Bowyer, who had led 54 laps, on Lap128, and led only the final seven laps.
Rookie Cole Whitt finished third and took over the points lead in the process. Whitt, who is from Alpine, Calif., and won’t be 20 until June 22, became the first rookie and youngest driver in series history to lead the standings. He’s up by one point on Johnny Sauter, who finished sixth. Charlotte Observer
James Buescher came home fourth, followed by Ron Hornaday Jr.
