Clint Bowyer erased the demons of runner-up finishes in NASCAR Nationwide and Sprint Cup races at his home track Saturday with a dominant victory in the Camping World Truck Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway.
Bowyer, from Emporia, Kan., led 124 of 167 laps and scored a near-perfect driver rating en route to the first win by a Kansas native at the decade-old 1.5-mile tri-oval.
“It was a dream for me to be able to compete here in any series, and to roll into victory lane is a dream come true,” Bowyer said.
Bowyer held off Johnny Sauter, who ran consistently in second place most of the race and retook the series points lead with a runner-up finish.
Buried in the pack at the restart, Bowyer carved through the field on the way back to the front for the 11th truck series win in his career in the 400th NASCAR Truck Series race. Kansas City Star
Todd Bodine ran third, followed by James Buescher and Joey Coulter, who passed Kyle Busch on the last of 167 laps for the fifth spot.
Busch’s sixth-place run ended a three-race winning streak in the series. He had won at Nashville, Dover and Charlotte prior to Kansas.
Brendan Gaughan, Nelson Piquet Jr., Brad Sweet and Travis Kvapil finished seventh through 10th, respectively.
