Johnny Sauter wasn’t chasing Clint Bowyer in Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 as much as he was racing the rest of the field.

Sauter, the defending champion of the truck race at Kansas Speedway, finished second to Bowyer but took care of the most important order of business, regaining the lead in the points race.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our effort,” said Sauter, who took a 12-point lead over Cole Whitt. “There’s a little added pressure coming in here as the defending race winner. Everybody wants to talk to you about that … but we’re racing everybody. Kansas City Star

Todd Bodine ran third, followed by James Buescher and Joey Coulter, who passed Kyle Busch on the last of 167 laps for the fifth spot.

Austin Dillon, who started on the pole, fell off the pace early and was penalized twice, once for coming out of pit road too fast and once for entering too fast. He finished 12th.

Four-time series champion Ron Hornaday, who entered fifth in the standings, blew his left rear tire and hit the wall 17 laps in. He finished 30th, 66 laps down, and slipped one spot to sixth.
