Ron Hornaday, Jr. continued his record winning streak in the Camping World Truck Series by taking Saturday’s Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway.
Hornaday put on a dominating performance, as he led 115 of 154 laps. His near three-second lead over Brian Scott was erased when a caution in the closing laps setup a green-white-checkered finish. Hornaday easily pulled away from Scott on the restart and beat him to the finish line by 0.944 seconds. MiamiHerald.com
The win is Hornaday’s fifth consecutive in the truck series — a series record. He set the record a week ago with four straight at Indianapolis.
Hornaday’s five wins tie him with Richard Petty and Bobby Allison for the second most consecutive wins in any of NASCAR’s top three series. Petty has the NASCAR record with 10 straight Cup wins in 1967. Petty and Allison each won five consecutive in 1971.
“You can never compare someone to the King or Bobby Allison,” said Hornaday, who drives the No. 33 truck for Kevin Harvick Inc. “I’m just glad I’m in the same book with them.”
Hornaday’s win was his first in five truck starts at Nashville. He was fifth here last year and runner-up in 2007. The win is his 45th victory in 239 starts in the truck series. Hornaday has had 12 top-10 finishes in 13 races this season. The Tennessean
“This is unbelievable. You can never compare to The King (Petty) and Bobby Allison, but this is an honor to just be in the same book as they are,” Hornaday said. “This will mean a lot to me when I’m sitting down with my grandkids looking through the record book and my name will be in there with the Allisons and Richard Petty.”
Rick Ren also set a series record for victories by a crew chief with 27. He broke the record he shared with Dennis Connor.
“I think that’s an honor,” said Ren, a winner with five drivers. “A lot of people don’t really know how hard this is.”
Colin Braun was third, followed by Peters, Matt Crafton, Johnny Sauter,Rick Crawford, Dennis Setzer, Tayler Malsam and T.J. Bell. The Associated Press
